TABARÉ GÓMEZ LABORDE (“TABARÉ”)

Tabaré Gomez Laborde

• Born August 21, 1948 at Ciudad de La Paz, Canelones, Uruguay.

 

• 1960-1964 he completed his secondary school while working as waiter at a pizza parlour. From then on and up until the time he turned 26, he worked at several advertizing agencies and began publishing foot-ball caricatures for the Uruguayan newspaper “Hechos de Montevideo” and several humour magazines.

 

• In 1974 he moved to Argentina and worked for newspaper “Noticias” and soon after for “Satiricón” magazine.

 

• In 1977 his comic-strip Diógenes and the Hobo was published for the first time in “Clarín” newspaper. Today it is still being published by the daily.

 

• He published cartoons in leading humor magazines in Argentina, such as “Humor”, “Super Humor”, “Sexhumor”, “Eroticón”. He also published for “Lui” in France, Eura Editorial in Italy and the weekly “El Jueves” in Spain.

 

• Among his most well-known comics are Eustaquio´s Ballads, Interior Life, Paja Brava, Untellable Tales, Max Calzone and Bugville.

 

• He illustrated various children´s books for publishing houses Alfaguara, Sudamericana and Colihue. He´s contributed work for children´s magazines “Humi”, “Billiken”, “Disney” and “Genios”. He also published comic books for Italy, Spain, Norway, Argentina and Uruguay.

 

• He contributed the drawings for a series of fifty humorous shorts under the name of Tabaré Moves.

 

• In 1977 he obtained the Honorable Mention in Graphic Humor at the International Festival of Graphic Humor “Fano Funny”, Italy.

 

• He was granted the title of Honorable Professor of Graphic Humor by the University of Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

 

• In 2003 he obtained the Morosoli Prize granted by the Lolita Rubial Foundation, Uruguay, in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the field of graphic humor and comics.
